La stored procedure USP_IMPORT_XML_INTO_SQL() definita di seguito permette l’importazione di dati da file XML a tabella SQL Server.

La sorgente dati è rappresentata da un file XML strutturato come il file di esempio TestTab.xml illustrato in figura 1.

La destinazione su cui importare i dati è rappresentata da una tabella SQL Server il cui nome deve essere specificato nel file XML dal tag DATA IDENTIFIER. Nell’esempio, la tabella di destinazione è TESTTAB <DATA IDENTIFIER="TESTTAB">.

Il libro di Luis Davidson è la naturale evoluzione della precedente versione scritta per SQL Server 2000. La prerogativa di questo libro – così come del precedente – è la focalizzazione non solo sull’uso di SQL Server come prodotto con tutte le sue feature e le sue peculiari caratteristiche, ma anche e soprattutto sulla parte architetturale dell’implementazione di un database, ossia la modellazione del database stesso.

Visto che la CTP di Sql Server 2005 è finalmente feature complete, e che quindi è possibile cominciare a fare dello sviluppo “serio”, è ora di cominciare anche ad aprire il vaso di Pandora delle nuove e contestate feature di Sql Server 2005. Una delle più interessanti è senza dubbio il nuovo tipo di dato xml.

Lasciando stare le risposte derivanti da fondamentalismi (passatemi il termine un pò forte ) circa convizioni più o meno religiose sullo uso di XML all’interno di un db, veniamo all’atto pratico: xml serve davvero? se si, in quali casi?
